- 12 Cancer Symptoms You Should Not Ignore
It is believed that more than 1.5 million people might have cancer. Doctors consider this to be an elevated figure, but they say that there is a greater chance of remission the earlier it’s treated. Cancer may cause some general symptoms like fever, fatigue or weight loss. If you notice an odd pain or any other change that persists, gets worse or some shows any of the signs in the following pages, please consult your doctor immediately.
1. Weight loss without trying
Losing 10 pounds or more while not on a diet may be a sign of cancer. This happens most with cancers of the stomach, pancreas or lungs.
Sometimes a fever can affect the immune system, which makes it harder for the body to fight infection. It can also be a symptom of lymphoma or leukemia.
Extreme fatigue that doesn’t get better with rest can be a symptom of several cancer types such as colon cancer, stomach cancer, or leukemia.
Sometimes bone cancer or testicular cancer can cause pain. A headache that doesn’t get better after long-time treatment may be a symptom of a brain tumor. Back pain may be a sign of cancer of the ovary or colon.
5. Skin Changes
Any freckle, mole, or wart that changes its color, shape, or size should be checked for skin cancer. Other skin changes can be a sign of cancer too, including darker looking skin, reddened skin, itching and yellowish eyes and skin.
6. Change in bowel or bladder habits
Long-term diarrhea, constipation or a change in the size of your stool can be a symptom of rectal or colon cancer. Pain when passing urine and blood in your urine can be related to bladder or prostate cancer.
7. Sores that do not heal
A long-term sore in the mouth could be oral cancer, especially in people who often drink alcohol and/or smoke.
8. Unusual bleeding
Coughing up blood could be a sign of lung cancer. Blood in the stool can be a symptom of colon cancer. Blood in the urine can be a symptom of kidney or bladder cancer. A bloody discharge from the nipple can be a symptom of breast cancer.
Most cancers can be felt through the skin. This happens in the testicle, breast and the other soft tissues of the body.
10. Indigestion or trouble swallowing
It is a common symptom of the head and neck cancers including esophageal, oropharyngeal, thyroid, and laryngeal cancers. It can also be a symptom for people who have stomach cancer.
11. Nagging cough or hoarseness
A persistent cough that is simply not going away can be a sign of lung cancer.
12. White spots in the mouth
White patches in the mouth or white spots on the tongue can be leukoplakia, which is a pre-cancerous area caused by frequent irritation. If not treated early, it can become mouth cancer.
